Approach
My goal for this assignment was to create a dynamic piece that would get my rhyming pair across to the viewer.
Sketches
Creating sketches was an important part of my process. This helped me to narrow down which ideas of mine were more successful than others. I created 50 sketches showing a variety of pairings and phrases.
Roughs
I designed 4 roughs, two graphics and two collages, from my sketches. The two graphic pieces were Sail Whale and Aristocrat Cat. The two collaged pieces were Wet Cassette and Steak Cake. I chose the Aristocrat Cat and Wet Cassette for my final two pieces to move forward with.
Final
Some of the changes I wanted to make for my final pieces dealt with the overall dynamics. I wanted the cat's facial expression and stance to give off more of a grumpy aristocrat. I also wanted to add in more texture and varying line weight to keep the eye moving. For the cassette, I wanted the water to be more realistic and I added more highlights and shadows to give the piece more dimension.
